The Space and Place exhibition was held over three days in April 2016, and showed work by the four artists who had spent ten days in residence at Left Bank Leeds. The four artists were chosen from nearly two hundred applicants and their output included sculpture, fine art, ceramics and sound art.

Anastasis was an installation of small seedlings that visitors planted to celebrate the coming of Spring, Leftbank asked me to provide a sound work to accompany the visual work and provide a reflective and peaceful environment. I decided to record the dawn chorus using multiple microphones, which were then played back in a quad arrangement during the opening hours

Having spent so much time at LeftBank I fell in love with the place. Sound had played an important part in the Space and Place exhibition in terms of my output for the exhibition, but also as a backdrop for the other works. I was asked to provide some soundworks for two other events. Abandoned Yorkshire was a photography exhibition that highlights the beauty in architectural form and the interaction with the natural habitat. Nature takes over. The Summer Show was an open call for works to be exhibited in Left Bank. I used the show to develop my hardware controllers and gain some useful insight from the visitors into how they may be used. The issue with spatialising audio over irregular speaker arrays had increasingly become a problem and I had conceived a new work ‘Listen, Hear!', which was featured in the exhibition

‘Tupperware Party’ is a reference to the 1970’s phenomenon of social gatherings where people could buy plastic storage containers (sounds nuts today!) I used the name as a playful reference to this activity as well as to the form the hardware controllers took - I used plastic storage boxes reminiscent of the original Tupperware boxes to house the electronics. The development of this technology came from problems I encountered with effective spatialisation over irregular speaker arrays and can be seen in the Summer Show 2018.

Ostara is the Germanic goddess of Spring and this work was conceived as a celebration of the changing season. It was a site specific work for sixteen speakers, eight of which are specialist highly directional sources made by Holosonic. These allow sound to be directed wherever it is wanted and the perception of source location is the reflection. This enabled sounds to be directed from above using the complex reflections.
